Re: apearance is a lot in a lot of places

their body shapes can work against them outside of fashion

This is patently untrue. There are studies showing that thin, attractive women are paid more and are assumed to be more intelligent than their fatter, less pretty colleagues. You are making this up.

Also, as a tall, thin, low-BMI lady, I can assure you that nobody has ever assumed that I am stupid based on my proportions. Quite the opposite.

Thin attractive women or tall thin model looking women? There is a difference.

Re: apearance is a lot in a lot of places

I think it's a distinction that you are forcing in order to make a point.

I've worked with a spectrum of tall, attractive, and yes, model-thin ladies. Being extremely thin makes absolutely zero negative impact on anyone's career.

Re: apearance is a lot in a lot of places

also i refuse to accept anecdote as evidence that--by and large--models (and model-looking women) are considered intelligent. i've seen and heard too much to the contrary.

while there is a lot of conflating of beauty with other favorable qualities (beauty=smart=nice=valuable), in the instance of female beauty of that particular type, i believe most people assume there is a pretty face and little more.

Re: apearance is a lot in a lot of places

Overweight women are paid less

Attractive people paid more

Sorry, but your point is not valid.

Re: apearance is a lot in a lot of places

my point was specifically about model looking women, not just thin women. thin and model thin are not the same. also attractive is not the same as runway model. most of the stars we consider attractive look nothing like runway models.

Re: apearance is a lot in a lot of places

Sorry, again - not true. I do know model-thin women (yes, that thin, sorry) and their careers are doing just fine.

Wishing won't make it so.
