Rock superstar to perform in library!

Whacky rock superstar Momus stunned fans yesterday by announcing that his first London show in years will take place at a tiny suburban public library!

The eye-catching pirate, known for loopy hits like Beowulf (I Am Deformed) and My Sperm Is Not Your Enemy, delighted his colourful followers with the news that he plans to perform a full set amongst the shelves of the Donald Hope Library, Colliers Wood, London on April 26th.

Speaking by satellite video phone from his inflatable dome home in Berlin, the Howard Hughes of pop explained: "I wanted to do something a bit different. This will be the ultimate intimate Momus show. Just you, me, the music, and 20,000 volumes of large print Barbara Cartland."

Is the Momester playing with a full deck? What about the trademark razzledazzle, the jumpkicks, the firebombs? Is all that Wembley Stadium stuff old hat? Are books where it's at now?

"I think so," muses the trend-setting chameleon, dressed in a poncho, sailor pants and Dutch clogs. "Books are really, really great. Check a few out while I'm performing, they may have changed since you last looked. Try a work of non-fiction with a nice jacket, or a novel by an author with a foreign-sounding name!"

"Books are sexier than Robbie Williams," adds the sarcastic vaudevillian in a sly dig at the arch-rival who calls him "that skinny clown".

"If you join a library, they're free to borrow."
