In my life, I had 2 cars - both were horrible things that lasted less than a year total.

Current fuel prices are high for artificial reasons. I don't think it has anything to do with the idea of Peak Oil. I think there's smoke and mirrors in our way.

I don't think that idea, either true or false discounts the environmental impact that cars create.

I do know, just be seeing people in my own city that high oil prices are the reasons a whole lot of people are on bikes. It's amazing to go outside and see the streets - everywhere I go, with bikes on it. It wasn't even like that last year. It's wonderful. It's not Amsterdam - yet, but it's very warming to see different types of people on different types of bikes. I love it. I love it. I love it.

My pseudo-anonymous alter ego still lives in Boulder, but I've moved to a slightly larger city. I actually used to live in a gallery that hosted the AIGA conference that was a year prior that I think you talked at.

I'm in Denver, Colorado, USA right now - to be honest, it feels like what's happening in Portland, Oregon, USA just a few years later. It usually happens that trends that happen on the coast slowly make their way to us. It's why we don't have a known fashion subculture and our contemporary art is usually overlooked. Our music scene is a little underappreciated, but I think it's well worth checking out. There's some great bands breaking through - off the top of my head.... Devotchka? They just had their CD release in London - typically unheard of for a Denver Band. Great stuff.

Hope to be in Amsterdam in about month (France, for sure). I cannot wait to take on, first hand, their bike culture.

Ah yes, I wasn't quite sure about the fuel prices thing, not being a driver myself and so hazy on the details. It seems to be having quite a knock-on effect in many ways, though.

I think it would be nice if landscapes gradually started to lose the death zones that are roads. I mean, traffic arteries of one sort or another will remain (unless we all start travelling by teleport, which I don't want to do for a very good reason), but perhaps will become less deadly.
