I never did E either, probably due to a mixture of fear and snobbery, what were your reasons?
I'm interested to hear you defend it as pastiche, you've dabbled with dancebeats throughout your career but for me, although it usually befits the song and the lyric, you've never really got me out of my seat- is there a part of you that would like to fill the dancefloor, or is it only ever a pastiche of, or a nod to the genre?

I always knew I'd be using my brain extensively in the second half of my life -- as a writer, probably -- and there were no long-term studies of the effects of E on the brain. I didn't want holes in my cognition, my memory, my reflexes, my heart. I wanted to leave everything pretty much intact.

I'm also rather against unearned highs in general. You should feel good for a reason. That's what I mean in Spacewalk when I sing "And in the wintertime it feels like summertime, and in the summertime it feels so strange". It's pretty ironic that the song got remixed by those total E-heads in Deja Vu! It's an anti-drugs anthem, really.

I currently hate "dance music", insofar as it means 4/4 beats with "sequencer chaff" over the top. But I'm not against music having bodily effects. It's funny, Hisae just asked me to take the Si-Cut DB remix of Conquistador off the turntable -- it was making her feel sick! I guess that's a bodily effect.

Unreliable Tour Guides

Drugs can enhance unreliability.
