Capitalism: doesn't it make you (mentally) sick?

Not to be too terribly pedantic, but both of the Badiou books I've mentioned were published in the 2000s. I've just gotten out of grad school, and was laid off by the university I taught for - so the real, job-less, utterly grim post-credit crunch world is very much in the forefront for me. Scraping by in car-hell Los Angeles will make a man think, you know.

Despite Badiou's unfortunate latent Maoism (I'm a grumpy Trotskyist), he's quite a brilliant thinker -- one who, I believe, would cock an eye at any assertion of neo-liberalism's demise. We're very much in the thick of it; any so-called "post-modern" reading of the world's events further reinforces capitalist hegemony.

Ugh. Typing "hegemony" makes me sick to my stomach. Can we just agree on Man=Man and Charlie Chaplin, and leave it at that?
