Three embedded Vimeo vids

Three Vimeo music vids for you today. Andrew Bulhak, aka acb, has made a remix of Jahwise Hammer of the Babylon King from the Joemus album. It's called Dubwise Hamster of the Babylon King, and credited to Momus vs. acb. Andrew's original remix is here, but I've made a video of a remix of his remix:

Next, here's a David Shane Smith collaboration with August called falseareuponme. I recommended David Shane Smith back in December as a new Dylan, Cohen, or Beck figure (he's also been compared to Tom Waits and Nick Drake). I now have his album, Cloud Pleaser (Stroboscopic) and it's strong stuff indeed. This isn't on it, and isn't typical of it, but does show DSS's juxtaposition of singersongwriter virtues with sonic interest:

Finally, a great video by Jeff Desom for Hauschka's Morgenrot, from the German prepared piano wizard's FatCat album Ferndorf. I love the film's evocation of a dusty-Modernist New York here, and the fruity cello:

You can see a scratch video for a newer Hauschka track, Tagtraum, from his current "leftovers" album Snowflakes and Car Wrecks. That video is here.

Wow, your getting really square with your tastes these days. Originality seems to have gone on a long trip and it's not due home anytime soon judging from your recommendations.

He'll be fifty next year. He's allowed to be "square", hipster-dude.

Yes, I am frighteningly -- almost inconceivably -- old and conservative. In addition to David Shane Smith and Haushka, I've recommended Wounded Knee and Bakiri No Su and "sample bitch" Doddodo, all of whom make Coldplay sound like Buraka Som Sistema.

Your brother Mark is younger than you, is better looking than you, has more hair than you, has been more successful than you, has more interesting ideas than you, and yet is far less narcissistic than you.

That's a bit cruel.

Cruel, but fair. In twenty years' time, I've no doubt that students of narrative theory will still be reading Mark's magisterial About Time. Momus's achievements will prove considerably more ephemeral, I fear.

I quite agree, my brother is tragically underrated. I think there ought to be a Wikipedia page about him, or at least an interview somewhere out there.

Dang troll, why so hateful? Momus doesn't come down to where you work and throw rocks at you while you mow the grass does he?

Momus, does your brother read this blog? What does he think of your music?

He says he looks at it from time to time -- he's probably too busy to read it daily, I'd imagine. His wife's Facebook page mentioned that they were listening to Momus and Del Amitri recently, in the same session! They're both critics, so perhaps they were doing comparative prac crit? In which case, I wonder who won? But they were probably sipping whisky and relaxing.

I don't know if Mark has Joemus. Out of my immediate family, I just gave a copy to my sister's kids. Pop music, after all, is for children.

By the way, of the people in the photo above, by far the most successful was the tiny girl sitting between Mark and me. She became a commodities trader in Singapore, focused on social investment.
