1. Self-squandering and lazy
2. Soulless and unable to forget himself
3. Drowned in crass obsessions - magic, money, childhood, humdrum self-mythology
4. Hired 50 producers and hundreds of musicians to hide the fact that he couldn't write a song
5. Influenced Five Star - bypassed almost all the interesting musical advances of his age

Oh why go on.. the blokes from Blancmange had as much claim to be 'icons' IMHO

MJ's death is certainly bringing joyless, up-themselves wanks out of the woodwork.

On the contrary. If you have something called a "television", or even a "computer" turn it on. MJ's death is bringing out sycophants, the deaf, people who believe in 'magic' instead of music, people interested in the narrative of celebrities lives more than the quality of what they make, Disney-fication and childhood-worship, middle range 'thinkers' trying to contextualise the 'phenomenon' of Jackson (ie blunt-end marketing for consumers-as-idiots).
