1.

2.

3. Yes, I just google. For a visual artist I might also check Artfacts.net, image search, look on ubu.com, search video, etc.

4. In fact 1997 was a big Ping Pong year for me; I had a table in my London flat, as well as having an album titled after the game. Later, in 2005, I used lots of ping pong sounds in this remix.

5. My sister: Grease soundtrack and Kim Wilde. My brother: Peter Frampton and Status Quo. I tried, with some success, to change their tastes, inculcating in my brother a love of Talking Heads and Elvis Costello.

6. I'll quote Paul Westerberg himself here: "You can't come in and just let your first impressions lead you. Because your first impression will be of a band that doesn't play real well, is very loud, and might be drunk."

7. Toshiya Tsunoda.

8. Well, you have pretty great taste already, I'd say -- you've introduced me to some amazing things via the videos you've posted! But just based on the Replacements song, you might like The Only Ones:

- Of course I knew about the ping pong references in your music momus (ping pong, sing song, ding dong, king kong) but I always wondered if you actually played. I play Chinese penhold, as opposed to the american/british shakehand style, having been taught by a sweet little nurse in Malaysia who used to play with me in the afternoons when her shift was over. When I was fifteen or so a friend an I used to play in his basement, but we would play these marathon games where the objective wasn't to score on the other person, but to keep the ball from touching the floor up to a certain count, say 500 or 1000. The rule was that if you missed even one, you had to start all over, so you could get to 987, miss one, and have to begin again from scratch. It would take hours and hours sometimes, but we never gave up :)

As I got older, my game developed, especially in college, where there was some real competition. I can certainly smash, but I tend to be more of a defensive player, standing 10 feet behind, looping those balls back all... day... long.

It occurs to me that there is a certain element of ping pong to Click Opera, at least in the comments section, with those lazy anons trying to sneak a serve by you and you're all overhand-top-spin-down-the-line-daddy-never-loved-you on the return.

Sorry, don't mean to go on but I haven't played in ages and I do love me ping pong. Second only to badminton, which is really only ping pong writ large, with the parabolic grace of the shuttlecock replacing the icy white blur of the ball.

"I'll quote Paul Westerberg himself here..."

Haha nice one momus. The fact that no one else likes them was a recurring theme in Colin Meloy's lovely little memoir for the 33 1/3 series. And spot on as usual -- their cover of Another Girl Another Planet was always a mainstay of their live shows. I saw them open for Elvis Costello at madison Square garden around 1990. Neither put on a very good show and I'm not much for concerts, but I got a cool t-shirt out of it.

wow, thanks momus, a compliment like that from someone like you is high praise indeed. Like getting a kiss from the prettiest girl in art school :) But I'm bush league compared to you, and I don't mean that in a false modesty kind of way. I just value your aesthetic judgement, your "eye", very much. Most blogs I may ping on what, 10 maybe 20 percent of the content? But I can honestly say that 90, to 95% of the things you turn me on to just hit my sweet spot. It's uncanny. And I may have a bit of a buzz ion but I don't care. in vino veritas. You meant a lot to me over the years, I could always count on you, and I want to be the guy in the back of the room jumping up and giving you a standing ovation because you deserve it. Of all the people on the internet, you deserve it. So this is my thread to indulge and show my ass, know what? I don't care. I can mourn for click Opera. i can howl. I'm only human.
